UpdateTimer
TimerTools
Description
Modify existing timers dynamically at runtime! UpdateTimer lets you change intervals, pause/resume timers, or adjust repeat behavior - without having to delete and recreate the timer.
Ideal for adaptive systems that must adjust to changing conditions at runtime. Adjust timeouts based on network speed, change polling intervals dynamically, or pause timers as needed.
Why This Tool Stands Out
- Dynamic Adjustment without restart
- Selective Updates only what is needed
- Pause/Resume functionality
- Interval Changes in real time
Perfect for:
Developers of dynamic systems that must adapt to changing conditions. Ideal for adaptive timeouts, variable polling rates, reactive user interfaces, and systems with fluctuating resources.
Workflow support; time savings depend on the task
Instead of implementing complex timer restart logic or migrating state, update timers directly. No interruption of running processes, no data loss when changing timers.
JSON Parameters
- timerName (String, Required)The name of the timer to update. It must exist for the update to succeed.
- interval (Integer, Optional)New interval in milliseconds. Changes the time between triggers. Takes effect immediately at the next cycle.
- repeat (Boolean, Optional)Changes the repeat behavior. true for repeating timers, false for one-time execution.
- status (String, Optional)Controls the timer state. Values: "active" (resume), "paused" (pause). A paused timer retains its remaining time.
- reset (Boolean, Optional)If true, the timer is reset and starts the interval over. Useful for extending a timeout.
Example Call
{
"tool": "UpdateTimer",
"params": {
"timerName": "autoSave",
"interval": 600000,
"status": "active",
"reset": true
}
}
Example Use Cases
Adaptive Timeouts
Adjust timeouts based on current network speed.
NetworkOn-Demand Pause
Pause timers when the user is inactive and resume them on activity.
UXDynamic Polling
Change polling intervals based on server load or data change rate.
